    Book details

This book is the good news about God's unexpected ability to give anyone the power to recover from failure and move forward with hope.

Merrill (Sinners in the Hands of an Angry Church) believes that God is a God of second chances. Using a journalistic narrative style and personal profiles, Merrill examines the Bible's views on failure and relates stories about people who have, with God's help, bounced back from it. For example, Merrill tells the story of a young woman who was addicted to prescription drugs. Caught for stealing these kinds of drugs, she found herself in court, embarrassed, ashamed and repentant. Although her time in a drug-rehabilitation center failed to give her the strength to lead a life without drugs, her subsequent time in prison gave her the opportunity to attend chapel meetings and Bible studies and to turn her life around. Merrill says that she took advantage of this "second chance," and she now leads Bible studies for women at the county jail. Other stories demonstrate how God gives imperfect people chances to make fresh starts. Merrill's stories give a simplistic and predictable version of how redemption operates. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc. Do you believe God gives second chances in life? AUTHOR Dean Merrill does. In fact, the God of the second chance is in the business of exchanging new life for old, joy for failure, and hope for heartache. This book is for those who have made mistakes but want to start fresh. It's for the man who stepped outside of his marriage, the trusted employee who has taken money or materials, the woman who has betrayed family or friends, the young man who traded his faith for drugs or alcohol. It's encouragement for those who have made bad decisions, showing that God doesn't give up on us even when the rest of the world does. With solid biblical perspective and true stories of those who have found their way back to God from failure, The God Who Won't Let Go (previously titled Another Chance) introduces us to the Heavenly Father who is not put off by our fiascoes, but who wants to bring good out of disaster.

this book was very well written by the author. he presents a totally non biased view on the subject. mostly, it is senarios and stories of peoples experiences and how god has redeemed them and remained faithful. the last chapters of the book are really excellent. the reason that i only rated this book 4 stars is because, while it is well written and a messege of hope, it is mainly only such to people who have commited sins against god and have never asked for forgivness, but have only remained feeling guilty, as well as those who cannot accept in their hearts that god has forgiven them. to these people, if you are one of them, BUY THIS BOOK! it will bring you closer to god than you have been in a long time, and i highly reccomend it. on the other hand, if you are simply looking for a hope filled book, something to draw you closer to god, but there is no obvious sin blocking you from him, or you haven't "back slidden", then it wouldn' hurt you to read this book, but i doubt you will get much out of it!
