The meditations in this collection deal with the death of a parent, grandparent, and best friend, as well as other relationships. Each writer shares his or her struggles in coming to grips with the cause of death, their grief, and the problems related to it.None of them tell the reader what to do, or what to believe.Instead they say, "This is what helped me; maybe it will help you too."

Meditations for the Bereaved includes the first person stories of 46 men and women. One writer's husband had a solitary nickel in his wallet when he died of a heart attack, while another lost his wife and both parents in a year and a half. An Oklahoma man's daughter was killed in the Murrah Federal Building bombing and a young woman's gentle sister was murdered by someone she was trying to help. The work was edited by Judy Osgood who also edited 5 other books in the Gilgal Meditations series. She began working in this area after her son died of cancer at age 16.
