I'm a naturalist guide in Pantanal, Wetland, Brazil. I've been guiging for four years now, but this is not a formalized profession in the country, which made me feel the lack of proper training and instruction. This book by Garth Thompson synthesize the experience of a legendary Safari Guide from Africa, providing anyone in the business a solid ground to reevaluate the priorities in this wonderful profession and giving strong material for those in charge of the initial training of future naturalists. Wonderful work, the best in the field.

As the head guide for a small tourism operation in Alaska, I was interested in reading this book for Mr. Thompson's insights into the guiding profession in general. This book is definitely aimed at would-be guides, apprentice guides, or people otherwise just breaking into this profession. To me, the most useful and relevant sections of the book concerned a guide's people skills, which would be useful to any guide, no matter on what continent he or she is working.
