In a quantitative dissertation or capstone you will be presenting your results. You may present your results with or without a discussion explaining what those results mean. You will want to consult your chair to make sure you are following the approach Presenting Your Dissertation Results & Discussion December 23, 2007 April 28, 2015 Jane Dissertation Research , Dissertation Writing , Dissertations When it comes to the point of presenting your dissertation results and discussing them you may be a little confused how to do this and so many of us are when we first do it. When writing a dissertation or thesis, the results and discussion sections can be both the most interesting as well as the most challenging sections to write. You may choose to write these sections separately, or combine them into a single chapter, depending on your university’s guidelines and . You will need to differentiate between is presenting raw data and using data as evidence or examples to support the findings you have identified. Here are some points to consider: Your findings should provide sufficient evidence from your data to support the conclusions you have made. The results section is where you report the findings of your study based upon the methodology [or methodologies] you applied to gather information. The results section should state the findings of the research arranged in a logical sequence without bias or interpretation. A section describing . Stylistically, results can be organized in a variety of ways, and you should employ subheadings as needed. If there is only a single protocol on a non-human subjects with no control group, there may be no need for subdivisions in the results section. Chapter Four: Findings, Results and Analysis. This chapter starts by presenting the findings obtained from the research, by setting out the results of the teacher’s initial questionnaires as they start their NOF training with SIfT. If your dissertation includes specific sub-questions or hypotheses, you can discuss the results on this basis. Answering these questions and testing your hypotheses is an important step that prepares you to answer your main question (which you will do in your conclusion section). Presenting is not easy and requires much more preparation but has far greater impact. I found the best approach for a new presenter is to tightly script the first two to three minutes of the presentation and memorize it. Sometimes the findings or results section of a dissertation comes in the same chapter as the main discussion. You will need to check with your supervisor what your university department’s rules are regarding these two sections.
